Lesson 1  - Blood Clotting

Lesson Objectives

A. Content Objective: The skin and mucous membranes form primary defense again pathogens and blood clotting helps maintain this barrier by fixing cuts using a complex series of chemical reactions.

B. Language Objective: The cascade reaction, clotting factors, fibrinogen and fibrin all work together to form a blood clot.

C. Syllabus Details:

Clotting

i. The skin and mucous membranes form a primary defense against pathogens that cause infectious disease

ii. Cuts in the skin are sealed by blood clotting

iii. Clotting factors are released from platelets

iv. The cascade results in the rapid conversion of fibrinogen to fibrin by thrombrin
